Karina Corral: Amateur Videographer

Karina Corral. Senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Media and Cinema Studies Major.

Hi! I am Karina Corral, a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I majored in Media and Cinema Studies with a focus in film production and editing. I enjoy walks outside, hanging out with my dog, and going out shopping. One of my favorite things to do is to have a photoshoot with my dog just to work on my camera skills!

DIM Events Videography Internship. Summer 2021.

I had the pleasure of participating in a summer internship with DIM Events as a videography intern. Below are some of the work that I have done while in the internship as well as the work I’ve done while being on set. Very exciting to have the opportunities to attend shoots in Chicago!

June 15, 2021. Another video shoot with Derrick C. Westbrook. Pictures of me from behind the scenes of filming both footage for the client and footage of interns for the company. Had fun getting to know the interns during these interviews as well as learning more information of wine from Derrick C. Westbrook!

I had the pleasure of helping film Momodou N’jie’s great advice for his Mo Than Management Instagram and I was in charge of editing as well!

May 25, 2021. The above photos are from the merchandise shoot and wine shoot DIM Events had. I was in charge of getting behind the scenes footage, as seen on the left and middle photos taken by my sister, and I was also helping film wine material with a client of DIM Events, Derrick C. Westbrook. It was my first time using a gimbal, and it was so fun learning how to balance it and use it!

During my internship, there would be a panel held every month with multiple industry professionals to talk to the interns about their work experience and to provide advice on how the interns can achieve their goals. One of my assignments as a a videography intern included choosing and editing clips from the panel that best highlights the information given that would also be best posted on the company Instagram.
As part of the videography team at DIM Events, I am also given the chance to edit podcasts!

Below is more work I have done! Enjoy!

My roles in this project included location manager, production assistant, boom operator, and editor. The edited footage was provided, and the assignment was to add in my own sounds to the video as well as edit the sounds added in the video. I utilized foley sounds, music and copyright free sounds from Freesound.org.

‘Parking Ticket’ is a 30-second commercial my Film Production class made for a final project. The goal was to recreate Heineken’s commercial for their product, however, we were only to create the video utilizing the information given in the script. My role in the project was recording the camera log and editing the footage as well as adding music and adjusting the color.
Dreams are Half Full by Karina Corral. April 21, 2021. I created this video while applying for a DIM Events videography internship. The prompt was “Dreams are Half Full” with the guidelines being the video had to be 1-minute long and contain a montage of cultural figures. I chose to focus on women who are impacting today’s society.
I created this video as part of an assignment to analyze a movie’s cinematography and dialogue. I decided to do this PechaKucha video using clips from the film Lady Bird. I felt compelled to emphasize the relationship between Christine and her mother even though the story focuses on Christine’s coming of age journey. I chose to focus on one aspect: Christine and her mom’s relationship. I felt that I owed Lady Bird the time and effort to be able to look through the different mother-daughter interactions and how each interaction was an important one. Just as I paired these clips of opposites with each other, I started and ended the video with clips that were opposite as well because I felt it was important to show that no matter what low point mothers and daughters have, they will bounce back and grow from it in order to reach the best parts.
